Program Description: Meet the award winning artist via Zoom and hear about her work. Paintings by Alexandra Eyer will be on display March-May 2021 at Curry Public Library in Gold Beach.

About the Artist: Born  in New York City, Alexandra has lived in Gold Beach for over forty years with her husband, Frank Martinez, with whom she has three grown children and even more grandchildren. She holds multiple art degrees and taught Art at Gold Beach High School.  While continuing to give workshops, in 2002 she turned her attention to painting full time.

For most of her adult life, Alexandra has managed to attend a weekly Figure Drawing group where artists get to work from a live model. All the figures in this exhibition were painted in the group which she has attended for almost 20 years where she has had the privilege of working alongside such respected artists as Pat and Paul Renner. These paintings are watercolor on watercolor paper and painted Alla Prima (Italian for “All At Once”) from life.

Before taking up watercolor, Alexandra was an oil painter, which explains her comfort standing at an upright easel. Her paper is perpendicular to the floor — drips don’t scare her. She uses complementary colors to create continuity, build drama, and to develop new colors. For instance, she might put red under a green shirt, or a light purple wash where a yellowish dress with a dark brown pattern will be painted.

This award winning artist has exhibited in national and international exhibitions and holds Signature Member Status in the Watercolor Society of Oregon, Hawaii Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. One can see her paintings displayed around Gold Beach, most notably at the GoldRush Center, and in Brookings at Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supplies.
