Talk: Rogue River Estuary Enhancement (NEW DATE!)

May 19 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

THIS TALK WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULE FOR MAY 12, BUT WAS POSTPONED TO MAY 19 DUE TO AN UNFORESEEN SCHEDULE CONFLICT.

Rogue River Estuary Enhancement:  Lower Rogue Watershed Council & Curry Watersheds Partnership

Join Kelly Timchak, Coordinator of the Lower Rogue Watershed Council, for a talk on the recent Rogue River estuary enhancement project on Thursday, May 12 at 5:30pm. This program is free and open to the public.

Learn about the project to increase suitable habitat for coho and other native salmonids, while also supporting processes to benefit other native species. The Rogue River estuary lacks off-channel complexity and floodplain connectivity, which are key stressors for coho populations in the Rogue River. These factors also impact habitat for steelhead, Chinook, sturgeon, amphibians, reptiles, and beaver in the Basin. The project addressed the lack of complexity by adding large wood to floodplains and sloughs, and increased connectivity by grading connection channels between isolated areas. Riparian areas were also planted with native species. Construction was completed in July of 2021, with a total of 29 large wood habitat structures and individual log placements installed between two sites to enhance the available habitat for native fish and wildlife.

Join us to find out how the estuary is working today. (And how they got all that big wood to the estuary in the first place!) Kelly will share some great restoration videos and photos with the community, along with an offer for a lively tour early this summer!
