Afterschool Program Instructional Assistant Opening #1+

Application Deadline: open until filled

Curry Public Library District is seeking a part-time instructional assistant to help with the library’s ASCEND afterschool program for middle-school students. This position is funded until June 2023 with a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant through the Oregon Department of Education.

Educational Assistants will supervise and lead daily youth activities as directed by the program director. They will also be responsible for some program planning. Instructional assistants will undergo background checks, and should demonstrate experience and competency in working with middle school students. The Educational Assistants will report directly to the ASCEND Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A four-year college degree.
  • One year of experience teaching or assisting middle school aged children in learning.
  • Experience creating lesson plans and designing curriculum.
  • Experience managing volunteers and paid employees.
  • Experience using Microsoft office products and online tools for budget management and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in teaching and current Oregon teaching license.
  • Experience with physical education instruction.
  • Experience working with students with behavioral and learning challenges.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizations and potential program partners in Curry County.

Work Schedule: This part-time position (20-30 hours per week) will begin in October 2021 or as soon as a candidate is selected and ready for work. The program assistant will work a M-F schedule with hours that will extend until at least 6:00 pm each work day, and include on-site work with children from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.

Compensation: Pay will range from $14-$25 per hour depending on experience. The job requires a minimum of 20 hours per week.
